Grief, Trauma and Alcohol - womens counselling Sydney

The emotional weight of trauma and grief, whether stemming from personal experiences or the challenges of having a loved one battling addiction or losing someone to substance use, can deeply affect one's well-being, even pushing many towards substance use as a coping mechanism themselves.

Interpersonal trauma from childhood and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) arise from profoundly distressing events, disrupting our ability to lead a regular life. This trauma can stem from a singular incident or be the culmination of prolonged exposures over time or both. Those grappling with PTSD may experience insomnia, low self-worth, and many other distressing emotions. It's not uncommon for individuals to turn to drugs and alcohol in an attempt to escape these painful memories. However, we're here to assist with these challenges.

While trauma can make you feel trapped in your past, you can find recovery. Our approach combines creating meaningful supportive relationships, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and for those interested, our animal-assisted program. This combination nurtures trust and emotional well-being. We focus on your unique needs, working together to find the most effective therapeutic path.

Grief can push you into isolation, but face-to-face support will start your healing. While expressing pain might seem daunting, talking about your emotions during the grieving process is really important. We offer a safe space for you to do so. A simple call or email can initiate your journey towards healing.

Take those steps towards healing and understanding; your story matters to us.  We will be waiting when you are ready.
